Ukraine vigil
Friday 24 February marks one year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. To mark this, there will be a vigil which will start on the plaza of the Metropolitan Cathedral at 4:30pm before continuing at Liverpool Cathedral at 5:30pm.
All are welcome to this vigil which will include speakers representing a range of faiths, a choir of Ukrainian singers, Evensong sung by Liverpool Cathedral Choir and space to reflect, light candles, pray and sit in peace. Days of prayer for Ukraine
The Council of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe has proposed a couple of days for prayer across Europe for Ukraine.
Wednesday 24 August is Ukraine’s Independence Day, to mark this, Fr Taras and Bishop Tom Neylon will lead an ecumenical prayer service at 3pm at the Cathedral. We are hoping to have a live link to Bishop Gregory Komar at Drohobych Cathedral during the service.
On Wednesday 14 September, the Council of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe has proposed a day of prayer across Europe for Ukraine and the Council has asked that cathedrals and other major churches host a period of Eucharistic adoration.
In response, the Metropolitan Cathedral will be having a period of exposition from 4pm-5pm that day and then Mass for peace in Ukraine will be celebrated at 5pm.
Close to home in Warrington
The Ukrainian Family Hub Warrington is looking for volunteers and hosts to support individuals and families in Ukraine who are seeking safety from the war.

We do have a request from the Hub who have been in touch with us. They have an URGENT REQUEST for a host in Croft or Culcheth.
It is for an 18 year old boy who is currently in a refugee camp in Norway on his own, as his parents remain in Ukraine. He is struggling and lonely. The request comes from a friend who is ALSO Ukrainian and who is staying in the area. He is a parishioner at St Lewis Church.

More updates about Archdiocese efforts in Ukraine via Poland
The Archdiocese #Liverpool4Ukraine appeal will be making its third trip to the Ukraine/Poland border to deliver aid that has been specifically requested by Bishop Gregory Komar – dried food, medical supplies and building tools to rebuild their homes. Six drivers in three vans will be leaving the St Margaret Clitherow Centre on Friday morning for the six day, 2,800 mile round trip. Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald will be saying Mass at the centre at 8am on Friday and will bless the vans and the drivers before their departure. The trip would not be possible without the support of our partner organisations or financial donations.
Still on Ukraine, our six volunteer drivers from the Archdiocese arrived at the Ukraine border to deliver essential aid to Bishop Gregory. Please see below some images of the handover and, below that, a video of COO Martin Miller interviewing Bishop Gregory Komar.
